Mountain Peaks of Pakistan-Himalaya Karakoram
Pakistan is very rich in mountains. It has more than 109 peaks above 7,000 metres sea level. There is countless of the peaks above 5,000 and 4,000 m. Five of the 14 highest independent peaks in the world are situated in Pakistan. common definition of a mountain is a summit with 300 m prominence (1,000;ft; also 10 traditional rope lengths). Alternatively, a relative prominence (prominence/height) is used (usually 7-8%) to reflect that in higher mountain ranges everything is on a larger scale.
The Karakoram Range covers the borders between Pakistan, India and China, in the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan (Pakistan), Ladakh (India), and Xinjiang region, (China). The range is about 500 km (311 mile) in length, and is bounded on the northeast by the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, and on the north by the Pamir Mountains.
